After Crystal Palace’s goalless draw against Man United at Old Trafford on Saturday, fans and players can take a lot of heart.
The Eagles have faced Everton, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Man United in consecutive fixtures, and have only managed two points from a possible 15. Subsequently, they are near the bottom of the Premier League table in 16th place, only one point ahead of bottom placed Fulham.
However, after that torrid run of fixtures, Roy Hodgson’s men can now look to potentially pick up more points in the coming weeks. Palace’s next three opponents are all in the bottom half of the table: Burnley, Brighton and West Ham, and after that they host Leicester at Selhurst Park. Those are all winnable games, and Hodgson will know this.
Of course, after those four games, The Eagles head to table toppers and champions Man City, but a loss at the Etihad is nothing short of a formality in the Premier League these days. It is the visit from Cardiff the fixture after that will entice Hodgson.
Therefore, it is clear that Crystal Palace are in a precarious position in the Premier League at the moment, but it is also clear that they have had an unfavourable run of games. What was key for them was that they finished with a very respectable draw against Man United, which can prove to be a springboard for more encouraging results in the coming weeks. Crystal Palace’s position in the league may be very different come this time next month.
