Ajax striker Kasper Dolberg has told the club’s in-house media team that he is happy to stay put at the Dutch club this summer, despite interest from the Premier League.
What’s the word?
Dolberg, who was the star of Ajax’s season last term, has revealed that he is happy to stay at the club, regardless of reports linking him with a move to fellow Europa League finalists Manchester United.
The 19-year-old, who had been a target of both Manchester sides, told Ajax TV (via Daily Mail);
“That’s fine if I am not for sale,
“I’m happy here, so there’s no reason to leave.”
The Danish international enjoyed an outstanding season for the Eredivisie side last term, bagging 23 goals in all competitions, so how much of a blow is it for United to lose out?
What are they missing?
Not too much, in all honesty.
The Dane has never been feverishly linked with a move to Old Trafford, suggesting it was more of a case of ‘if it’s possible,’ for Mourinho, who has gained a reputation for getting exactly who he wants at United.
The former Chelsea boss does need a new striker, in the absence of top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, however he needs someone a little more senior than 19-year-old Dolberg. If this was not the case then Marcus Rashford would be first choice to lead the line next season, as opposed to the very public chase for Alvaro Morata.
Dolberg may well emerge as one of the top goalscoring talents in Europe over the coming years and, should that happen, Mourinho will more than likely get him if he wants him. But for now there is little to worry about for fans in the red half of Manchester.
