History will be made this Tuesday evening at Selhurst Park as the Premier League ushers in a new era with their first ever game to be shown live on an online-only digital streaming service in the UK, as Crystal Palace take on AFC Bournemouth.
The match will be broadcast live for UK-based Amazon Prime subscribers along with the nine other games in the English top flight’s first midweek matchday of the 2019/2020 season.
Both of these teams find themselves in mid-table ahead of this clash, tenth and 11th respectively, although Palace are level on points with Manchester United in ninth place.
Based on that alone, one would expect an evenly-matched clash in south west London and when you look at the form of the two sides, little about that estimation will change.
Both the Eagles and the Cherries are in need of a bit of a lift with the hectic festive season fast approaching, they’ve lost three of their last five league fixtures.
However, the hosts do come into this one with a win under their belts having defeated Sean Dyche’s Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday, something not a lot of teams are able to do over the course of a campaign.
Meanwhile, Eddie Howe’s men are reeling from three successive defeats in the Premier League at Newcastle United, at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers and at Tottenham Hotspur, most recently – they will be desperate to stop the rot.
Question marks remain over the fitness of Eagles centre-backs Scott Dann and Gary Cahill for this match, whilst the visitors are boosted by the returns of Dan Gosling and Simon Francis from injury and suspension respectively.
You still sense that the season could go either way for both of these sides, whether that be fighting relegation or challenging for the European places, and Tuesday evening’s result could go a long way to deciding their fates.
It promises to be an interesting one under the Selhurst lights!
