Everton are facing arguably the biggest crisis in their Premier League history, with the club dangling just three points off the relegation zone in 17th, and their star players being linked with moves away.
In recent days, speculation over Richarlison’s future has been fuelled due to reports that he wants a move away from Goodison Park, with the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid both interested in his signature.
Number-one ‘keeper Jordan Pickford has also been linked with a move to Tottenham, while talented 24-year-old defender Ben Godfrey is a reported transfer target of Newcastle – and star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin could also follow them out the door.
What’s the news?
Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Calvert-Lewin could be sold amid the club’s financial difficulties and insecure Premier League status, much to their supporters’ frustration.
“They won’t want to sell him, and the fans would probably be fuming if they did, but needs must,” said Jones, speaking to GIVEMESPORT. “It’s a really worrying time if you’re an Everton fan.”
With the likes of Arsenal reportedly interested in the England international, it’s almost becoming inevitable that Everton will reluctantly sell the 25-year-old, as they head into a critical rebuild phase that could shape the future of the club for better or worse.
Major blow for Lampard
One thing for certain about this potential departure is that Everton boss Frank Lampard and indeed supporters alike will be absolutely livid if the club is forced into selling the £40.5m-rated striker.
After all, he has scored 56 goals for the club in 184 appearances, since joining from Sheffield United back in 2016 for a bargain £1.62m.
Following an injury-plagued season, Calvert-Lewin has scored just three goals in the Premier League, making just ten appearances, but still averaging a fairly solid 6.91 match rating according to SofaScore.
Over the last year, his more in-depth stats make for impressive reading. He has ranked in the top 10% among strikers in Europe’s top five leagues and continental competitions for aerials won per 90 (5.04), top 5% for tackles made in the attacking third per 90 (0.49) and top 12% for shots on target percentage per 90 (47.6%).
A proven goal-scorer whose finishing was once described as “cold” by former manager Carlo Ancelotti, he will remain a top striker wherever he will play next season – and if Everton do sell him, he will be a monumental loss at Finch Farm.
