Twitter gives footballers and clubs alike a platform to interact with fans, and on some occasions, taunt their rivals.On Thursday afternoon, Bolton Wanderers caught a nibble when they reminded Aston Villa of their recent 1-0 defeat at the Macron Stadium.

Villa have lost their last two Championship fixtures, which has affected their chances of earning automatic promotion to the Premier League come May.

As it stands, Steve Bruce’s side are fourth in the table, seven points adrift of the top two, and it seems that their best route back to the elite division is via the playoffs.

For Bolton, their priorities are completely different given that they are in the bottom half of the table, just six points above relegation.

There is a 30-point gap between the two clubs, and after Bolton’s social media team poked the bear, Villa responded by remaining the Trotters of the gulf between them.

Bolton hit back by suggesting that the Midlands outfit will fail to grab a place in the promised land, but Villa had to have the last word.
