Preston North End manager Alex Neil has emerged as the favourite to become the next permanent manager of Rangers, according to Oddschecker.
What’s the story?
After another disastrous week for the Light Blues that saw them beaten heavily by Celtic, it now appears certain that interim manager Graeme Murty won’t be in charge come the end of the season.
The betting market on who will be charge come the start of the new campaign is heating up again as a result and a new manager has emerged at the top of the tree.
According to Oddschecker, former Hamilton and Norwich City boss Alex Neil is the clear 3/1 favourite, ahead of former Ajax boss Frank de Boer at 6/1 and Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes at 12/1.
Would Neil be a good appointment?
Leading both Hamilton and Norwich back to their respective top-flight divisions, Neil has a track record of success at both of his previous clubs.
This season too his Preston outfit are chasing a play-off position, which is impressive considering there are many teams in the Championship with a much greater budget than the Lilywhites.
With great knowledge of the Scottish Premiership too, he could be a sound addition to replace Murty, having the kind of character and personality that can bring much needed discipline to the Rangers dressing room.
It would be a credible appointment, which is a step up from the club’s last two picks as manager.
