Harry Winks has been linked with a move to either Manchester United or Manchester City.
On the chalkboard
The Athletic reports that both clubs are interested in acquiring the England international, with United keen on doing a deal in January.
Can Spurs afford to lose the star, though?
He has hardly been intrinsic to the way Jose Mourinho has played since his appointment at the club, completing the 90 minutes just once, in his first game in charge.
Mourinho’s produced some incredible footballing stars – how much do you know about them?
In total, this season, he has played 16 times, with 12 starts and four substitute appearances.
And while he has yet to score or goal or register an assist, his statistics are remarkably instructive.
Per WhoScored, he averages a pass success rate of over 90%, with 52.1 average passes completed every 90 minutes. Of those, he averages 0.6 key passes per game.
Winks averages 0.4 shots per game, 0.7 dribbles and is fouled 0.9 times. Defensively, he makes 1.4 tackles per game and 0.9 interceptions, along with 0.7 clearances.
These are the numbers of a player who can get up and down the pitch and make an impact both off and on the ball.
Needs to be in the team
Winks needs to be playing regularly for Spurs.
It is no surprise that the likes of City and United are sniffing around.
This is an English player with plenty of Premier League experience – he has made 79 appearances in the top-flight – and he has also won six caps for his country.
The stats show that he is trustworthy in possession and is also excellent at winning it back and earning his side the time they need to push forward.
He would easily work his way into both starting XIs; Spurs should do all they can to keep him around.
For starters, they should put him in their XI.
Meanwhile, Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is not doing his side any favours.
