Jamie Redknapp has told talkSPORT that he thinks it is now “impossible” for Liverpool to not win the Premier League this season.
What did he say?
Redknapp, who used to play for the Reds, was talking about his former side’s title chances ahead of this weekend’s clash with fierce rivals Manchester United.
The big fat Liverpool quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Anfield?
The 46-year-old is now sure that the Reds will be on top of the podium come the end of the campaign. He said: “The title is done. Liverpool are too strong this year. It’s impossible for them to throw this away right now.”
Too soon?
The Anfield outfit are currently in one of the strongest positions of any league-leader in Premier League history. The Reds have a 14-point lead at the top of the table, and also have a game in hand on second-placed Manchester City.
Not only that, the 61 points they have amassed in their first 21 matches is the most of any side at this point of the campaign in the history of the top five leagues. Such has been their form, it is hard to even imagine when they may next lose a game – they haven’t done so in the league for over a year.
Having said that, Redknapp should know better than to tempt fate in such a situation. Whilst it may look as though the title is already sewn up, weirder things have happened than a collapse from this position – just look at Newcastle during the 1995/96 season when they let slip a 12-point lead over United.

Admittedly, it is incredibly unlikely that the Reds will blow such an advantage from this position, but you cannot say that it is over. Manchester City may not be the same side they were last season, but with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling at their disposal, they are still capable of going on a long winning run until the end of the campaign. They could easily capitalise on any complacency.
After 30 years without a title, the desire to triumph at the end of this term is insatiable for many of Liverpool’s alumni. Redknapp, though, should know better than to make such claims. There is still time for his words to come back and haunt him.
Meanwhile, this key battle could decide Liverpool’s clash against Manchester United this weekend.
