As quoted by Sky Sports, Paul Scholes has revealed Manchester United have to be written off for the next two years as they look to rebuild.
What did he say?
The Red Devils had a miserable campaign last season, finishing sixth in the Premier League and undergoing turmoil at various points of the season.
After an impressive start to the current campaign, United are winless in their last three games in the league, and currently find themselves eighth in the table.
Now, Scholes has admitted people should remain patient with the Manchester side as they look to rebuild the squad.

He said: “I think you almost have to write United off for the next two years – this team – until Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has cleared everything he wants out; has four or five transfer windows. United are going to be behind Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham.
“I think this is United at the minute; you have to be patient with the young players but the experienced players have to step up. We’ve seen over and over again how many mistakes experienced players are making. It’s difficult for young players to come into a team like that.”
Transition
United have arguably been in a period of transition since the moment Sir Alex Ferguson walked out of the Old Trafford door in the summer of 2013. But this summer has truly felt like a watershed moment in the history of the club.
Solskjaer has taken a hammer to the United squad he inherited from Jose Mourinho, and has culled several players who simply weren’t cutting it at the highest level for the club. The likes of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez made their high-profile exits, whilst the departures of Chris Smalling and Matteo Darmian showed that even fringe players aren’t exempt from this new-look rebuild.
Whilst Scholes’ comments certainly don’t make for pleasant reading for United fans dreaming of an instant return to the glory days of yesteryear, they do provide a sense of reality of where the club are at. As they say with the flu, it will probably have to get worse to get better. And for Solskjaer’s side, it may well be a couple of years before they come out the other side.
