Earlier this year, Bayern announced their decision to mutually part ways with Tuchel after just two seasons in charge. However, following rejections from the likes of Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso and Ralf Rangnick the Bavarians sought to renew Tuchel's deal. Ultimately, the former Chelsea boss turned down the offer and announced that he would indeed be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Speaking to Sky Germany, Tuchel said: "My decision to not renew? From Wednesday, he [Max Eberl] knew it. We talked everything through again. But no agreement was reached. What was the reason for not renewing? It stays behind closed doors."

With renewal talks underway, Tuchel reportedly made demands for Der Roten to strengthen in two key areas. Recruitment was something he was criticised for by the Bayern board, namely Uli Hoeness, who claimed Tuchel wanting new players was because he can't develop existing talent.
During his interview, Tuchel also mentioned the words of Hoeness, and that he didn't expect an apology from him. "No, he doesn’t have to. But I don’t hold grudges," he said.

With the Bavarians having ended their season with a 4-2 loss to Hoffenheim, the Bavarians' board will now be free to focus their energies on the search for a new coach. A potential option may have opened up for them after Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi, who had been on Bayern's shortlist, announced his departure from the Seagulls this summer.
